Metcalf wrote an extensive set of primarily cruise historical compilations drawn completely from observations maintained in personal logs. These typed manuscripts represent a unique and interesting insight into life as a Physical Oceanographer working at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution from 1946 through his retirement in 1979 and continuing on through his final cruise in 1984.
